Huehuetenango is one of our director of coffee Adrian's, favourite coffee regions in Guatemala. It is located in the highlands of western Guatemala not too far from the Mexico border. Coffee from this region tends to have a fruit-forward flavour and a creamy body this coffee is no exception.

In the 1950s, the Hidalgo family began to grow coffee on the land located in the El Paraiso village, Municipality of La Libertad, Huehuetenango. They focused on growing Caturra, and Bourbon varieties and recently added Sarchimor and catuaí to the list. In the 1970s Don Silvano Hidalgo inherited from his father a part of the farm that he called Las Camelias because he liked to have these Camelia flowers in his garden. This flower is a symbol of the utmost refinement of beauty and excellence of eternal love.

This lot is a washed process, the coffee is first selectively picked, which means manually picking just completely ripe cherries. After picking the coffee cherries are de-pulped and fermented to be washed after around 24hrs, then the coffee is spread on the patio for 12 days. When it is dry in the correct humidity range the coffee is put in bags and stored in the warehouses before getting shipped to the UK.
