Located in Kiambu County, approximately 47 km northwest of Nairobi, the Githembe Coffee Factory operates under the Thirika Farmers Co-operative Society.

Situated at an impressive altitude of about 1,800 m.a.s.l., the factory services a vibrant community where coffee cultivation stands as the primary cash crop, driving local infrastructure, education, and employment.

Here, coffee trees thrive under the shade of Grevillea and indigenous trees in rich red volcanic soils—complemented by patches of loam and black cotton. The area benefits from an annual rainfall of 900–1,100 mm, providing the ideal conditions for the steady maturation of the cherries.

Following harvest, the coffee undergoes a meticulous preparation process, finishing with traditional sun drying on tables. This slow, careful drying process is key to preserving the quality of the very bold beans and enhancing the classic characteristics of the conventional Kenyan varieties grown here: SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian.

The region follows a structured harvest cycle, with the early crop being picked from April to September and the main season running from October to December.
